Odion Ighalo’s recall to the Super Eagles after his misses at the World Cup has been widely criticised, but coach Gernot Rohr said the China-based striker is fired up to prove his doubters wrong.
Ighalo last scored for the Eagles a year ago against Cameroon in Uyo and his misses against Argentina in a crucial group game at Russia 2018 have failed to endear him to the fans.
“This is an opportunity to prove his critics wrong,” Rohr explained.
“He has been scoring in China and he is very motivated to do so for the Super Eagles now.”
On Sunday, the 29-year-old striker scored his 16th goal in the Chinese Super League.
Ighalo was the hero of Changchun Yatai after he scored the equaliser to make sure they didn’t lose at home to Hebei CFFC in a game which ended 2-2.
The former Watford put smile on the faces of Changchun Yatai fans as he scored in the 89th minute to bring the score to 2-2.
The former Udinese striker scored 15 goals for Changchun Yatai last season.
