Onazi to start for Nigeria ahead of Kelechi Nwakali in Mikel’s absence
On loan Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali is presently not in line
for a starting role for Nigeria against Seychelles, according to
reports coming from the team’s camp.
Nwakali has impressed in training but the Porto B loanee is still
behind Kelechi Iheanacho ‎who has scored goals in training aside from
teeing up others to score as well.
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has paired him with the duo of Wilfred Ndidi
and Ogenyi Onazi in midfield and bar any late minute change of mind,
the trio could be the midfielders for Nigeria against Seychelles.
Although Nwakali could yet make his senior bow for Nigeria, but it
will likely be a substitute rather than as a starter with Iheanacho
likely to start in the role just behind the striker.
The number ten role is not entirely new to Iheanacho as he has in the
past played in that position even though he plays as a top striker for
his present team Leicester City and his former side Manchester City.
