Maigari set to return as NFF president he gets backing from Ifeanyi Ubah, other stakeholders
Aminu Maigari looks set to be returned as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after he received overwhelming support from Ifeanyi Ubah and several major stakeholders.
Oil magnate Ifeanyi Ubah, who owns top NPFL club by the same name, has publicly announced his support for Maigari.
“I’m supporting Aminu Maigari,” Anambra State FA chairman Ubah was quoted as saying.
“We need a balance to the Nigerian football system.”
Ironically, it was the Amaju Pinnick group that had encouraged Ubah to contest in the polls.
Maigari’s support cuts across the various geo-political zones of the country to underline his acceptability.
Incumbent and CAF Vice-President Pinnick has tried to ride back to office on the basis of continuity and this appears now to have seriously backfired as several of his henchmen will also be shown the door today.
Maigari, a consummate politician from Bauchi northeast Nigeria, won a record 12 major trophies in his first stint as NFF boss between 2010 and 2014.
He is a team player who will be expected to unite a sharply divided football fraternity after a long-drawn power tussle on account of two elections in 2014.
