Babangida: Eagles Beat Tough Libya In Uyo, Must Focus On Winning 2nd Leg
Gernot Rohr’s men thrashed the Mediterranean Knights 4-0 at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium Uyo in their Group E matchday-four encounter on Saturday.
Changchun Yatai of China of striker, Odion Ighalo netted a hat-trick for the Super Eagles, with Samuel Kalu scoring the other, his first international goal for Nigeria.
“It was a good performance from the Super Eagles against Libya. They fought really hard against a tough opposition and I want to commend them for their efforts,” Babangida told CSN.
“The Libyans gave us a good fight, but our players did well to weather the storm which was quite commendable.
“Now, they must concentrate on the next game on Tuesday. I hope we can win that as well to improve our chances of qualifying for the AFCON.
“It’s a shame that we have failed to qualify for the last two editions of the competition and we can’t afford to miss out again.”
