Stepping On Blood: ‘The new bride of Ooni has done nothing wrong based on the traditions of the Ife people – Professor of Religious studies

Stepping On Blood:
Professor of Religious studies and Head of the Lagos State University’s Epe Campus, Danoye Oguntola-Laguda has shared his opinion on the viral photo of the new wife of Oni of Ife, Evangelist Seyi Naomi who stepped on what appeared to be blood during her recent marriage rites.

Though the palace has reacted to the trending photo saying, ‘the new Yeyeluwa wasn’t stepping on blood but OOSUN (Cam Wood). There’s no where in Yoruba tradition where the bride is required to step over blood as part of a wedding rite’.

The professor however believes that stepping on blood has a symbolic value that ‘we should appreciate’,

Read his piece below…

I read many reactions to the new marriage of Oni of Ife. I have also read condemnation of the action of the new bride, an evangelist stepping into her new home on the blood of an animal. Some said it is about tradition. Some said it is fetish.
Others are quick to label her as a ritualist. Permit me to say that blood is very central to many religions in our world today. All taking their origin in the Ancient Near East. Thus the expression”blood of the lamb”. The eid ahdah celebration is about blood offering to the Almighty creator of humanity.
The anthropologists among us will tell inform on the value of blood to our existence. Thinking of female monthly flow. Without it no life. Based on these premises I wish to submit that the new bride of Oni has done nothing wrong based on the traditions of the Ife people, Yoruba and humanity as a whole.
We should see the blood as a symbolic sacrifice to Olodumare. The signify a new beginning for the bride and groom. I pray we don’t condemn the act but appreciate the symbolic value of the stepping on blood. It is about life not death as in death, blood cease to flow. I await comments.

Please, enough of this. What is our business with what she did to become an Olori. If the boggers did not show us that scene, we would not have known, just like we don’t know the other things going on there. Congratulations on your new position ma.

Chinyere, na only position you care about. You seem the type to give in to human sacrifice to attain societal height. Everything is not about being Olori

As a child born into full yoruba royalty myself, I know 100% that there is NO WAY she has not 1. sworn in a shrine, 2, drank concoction, 3, bath with some particular traditional ingredients, 4, knelt down to idols. All this would have been done in private as part of her marital rites, she has been sworn to utmost secrecy. The parts that is shown to people/public is just the ceremony. The real joining of the Oba and Olori is a deep, occultic, strong and dark traditional convenient that people will never know. Even the Olori would not have known the full details until she gets to a point of no return. It is sad that people only see the glamor and worldliness of what is truly going on here. When the bible talks about the devil coming to kill, steal and destroy, I think people are expecting to see the devil as a monster to do this…..NO, the devil will deceive you, he will blur the lines and leave you confused….because he knows that confusion is a bonus for him. Just as he offered to give Jesus the whole world and its riches (The world belongs to the devil) so would he present to you all the riches and glamour in the world in exchange for your soul (What good is it for a man to gain the entire world and loose his soul). I see that many people are saying it is tradition/culture and that it is separate from religion……REALLY? so for instance, If your culture requires you to bring a human blood or dedicate your 1st child to a shrine/ idol, would you be comfortable to do that and then still go to the presents of God to do thanksgiving????????? Some people say she is like Esther in the Bible….please, dont be deceived, Christianity did not exist until the New testament when Jesus came, died for our sins, and resurrected. His blood is more than sufficient, because of Jesus, we dont need to swear in any shrine, walk on blood (Or so called OOSUN), we dont need to drink anything in the name of tradition, or kneel down in a shrine just to get to a worldly position. Esther WAS NOT A CHRISTIAN, nor was anybody in the old testament. so therefore, we dont need any Esther for our time because Jesus has finished the work on the cross. Looking for an Esther in this day and age only undermines the blood and sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. This is a spiritual battle. If you look at the Joining of the Ooni and a ‘christian’ prophetess as a wonderful thing, ordained and sealed by God, hence should be celebrated by the people……then I pray that may God in his infinite mercy open your eyes to see the spiritual side of what is truly going on here. This is a spiritual battle and an unfortunate win for the devil because he has blurred the lines and sent confusion to many Christ followers and naive people who think that you can follow tradition and Jesus………100% NO WAY. Choose a side, and choose wisely. But I can promise you this much, You cannot follow Jesus and Mammon. If you think you can follow Mammon at your connivence conjoined with Jesus, you are deceiving yourself. money, glamor, riches, worldly power, worldly fame and title are all deceptions the devil uses to deceive people because of the greediness of our hearts…..If the devil can tempt Jesus, please dont believe you are above temptation. The devil is always studying and looking for a way to give you worldly riches or selfish desires of your hearts in exchange for your soul and eternal fall from grace. So wether the Ooni says that the substance that the Olori walked on was Oosun or even water, that does not neutralise the bigger and worse fact that the actual traditional ceremony/rites was performed in utmost secrecy (which you will never see a single picture of, or know about…..and yes, it is worse than working on so-called blood, in-fact, walking on blood is nothing compared to it, I can promise you that much 100%) I pray that God continues to grace us with the inner eyes to see beyond worldly and physical things so we can understand how the devil operates. Amen!

With all due all respect, being a Professor of Religious studies does not grant you an automatic licence to enter into the kingdom of God, nor does it mean that you understand the difference between religion and tradition. HERE is another brainless person using worldly acquired certificate of ‘Professor of Religious studies’ to deceive people.please, go and seat down somewhere and count 1 to 10 until your brain re-sets. rubbish

If i say God should punish you for reducing Jesus blood to ram blood, menstrual blood etc, I will come across as horrible. But i must say, you are very dumb for that shallow write up. After Jesus Blood, no the blood is required or acceptable. Any other blood sacrifice is for the kingdom of the devil, so carry your pot belly and gray beard waka commot from this topic.

No matter how much you want to style it, mammon and Jesus can NEVER mix. Light and darkness can NEVER mix, Christianity and Idolatry/Tradition/ Culture/Herbalist can NEVER mix. 100 percent FACT for free!

No one really care, only that in this case the lady claim to be an evangelist. A prophetess. And we all know that No true Christian would go into such a Union. Nigerians as a matter of fact can through this incident discern the kind of religion some of our Christian religious leaders are into. I call it ‘Trado-Christianity’ A combination of the two which is in wide practice in Africa as a whole. You don’t know, but they know. And they don’t care because it’s paying.

So it is blood after all. Why is the Ooni denying if it is Ife culture? So, it’s blood after all! Everything about this wedding is a PR low – from bride matching on blood to the side twerking of the bride’s sister, to the Palace denials. The Palace should wake up to up it’s PR. This is pure PR failure. Next time, hide what should be hidden and show only what’s for public consumption. And don’t try to sell us a white-garment prophetess as an evangelist. I wish the newly Wed a happy married life. I fear about the foundation tho.

Are we still on this issue? The fact remains that this woman is in a wrong marriage and into unequal yoke. It’s either she was never a true born again Christian, just pretending or she has lost it.

Some churches would have asked her to resign her position in the church before this ritualistic occultic marriage.

Bottom line – Nigerians are very opportunistic. The Olori former business as an “evangelist abi prophetess” was to make her life better. Her new role now offers better opportunities and possibilities in life.. don’t knock her hussle..
