THE COPYRIGHT BODY IN NIGERIA IS NON-EXISTENT – KUNLE AFOLAYAN
Popular nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has alleged that the Nigerian body responsible for the protection of copyright, for content producers are not functional.
Kunle who made this statement while speaking as one of the resource persons at the MTN group’s Digital Content Creators Conference held today at Lekki, Lagos, also said the law is vague and too weak to prosecute offenders.
The producer of ‘Figurine’, ‘October 1st’ and ‘CEO’ said, this has been a major challenge for content makers in the country, thereby crippling the efforts professionals and the dreams of aspiring ones as well.
He added, “proper documentation that states who owns what right is important, even though the law is weak, but at least, it is properly documented, if it’s going to take you beyond that, it protects you “.
The Veteran however advised that everyone should rather do a thorough personal documentation of their works at every stage.
He also encourage aspiring filmmakers to make should they come up with contents that have both cultural and production value in other for their production to be able to stand the test of time.
Other celebrities at the event include, Tope Alake, Emeka Nehemiah, popularly known as ‘Ajebo’ and many others.
The programme which is a two day event and winds down tomorrow, was set up by MTNSHORTZ platform for content creators who are looking for opportunities to generate revenue from their creativity.
