Northwest Football Awards: Sammy Ameobi’s Goal Nominated For Goal of the Year
Nigerian-born winger, Sammy Ameobi is in contention to win Goal of the Year at the 2018 Northwest Football Awards in England scheduled for next Monday.
Ameobi’s goal for his English Championship side Bolton Wanderers against Bristol City on the 2nd of February, 2018 was shortlisted alongside five other goals.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s stunner against Manchester City, Nemanja Matic’s goal for Manchester United against Crystal Palace, Wayne Rooney’s’ strike against West Ham are also in the shortlist.
Other goals up for the award include Joe Thompson’s strike for Rochdale vs Charlton Athletic, Preston North End’s Alan Browne goal against Cardiff, and Conor McAleny’s goal for Fleetwood against Oxford United.
Sammy Ameobi, the younger brother of former Newcastle and Super Eagles striker Shola, has made five appearances this season for Bolton Wanderers and has scored once. The winger has been out since mid-September when he damaged ankle ligaments playing against QPR.
The 26-year-old signed a new two-year contract with Bolton Wanderers in the summer has scored eight goals in a total of 60 games for Bolton since first joining on loan.
Sammy Ameobi spent the first half of the 2016-17 season on loan at Bolton from former club Newcastle United and has also had spells at Cardiff and Middlesbrough.
