Jose Mourinho hands Ed Woodward two-man shortlist for January transfer window
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has told Ed Woodward to sign one of Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic or Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen in the January transfer window.
Mourinho was furious that he was denied a central defender last summer and feels the club have paid for their failure so far this term.
United have conceded 21 goals in 12 league matches so far this term and have a negative goal difference heading into the festive period.
Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have been first choice in recent weeks but Mourinho has little confidence in the pair and wants reinforcements in January.
United will hand Mourinho significant funds and the 55-year-old has told Woodward to sign Milenkovic or failing that Andersen.
Milenkovic signed for Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade in 2017 and the Serie A giants claim they turned down a £36million move for him last summer.
The Serbian is 6ft5 and can also play at right-back.
Andersen is yet to be capped for Denmark but has emerged as a growing talent in Italy since his move from Twente.
The 22-year-old has also attracted interest from Juventus and Inter Milan, while Tottenham are also thought to be admirers according to Sky Sports Italy.
United expect to have Paul Pogba fit to face Crystal Palace on Saturday, despite the fact that the midfielder did not train with his team-mates on Wednesday.
Anthony Martial and Diogo Dalot returned to full fitness, while Luke Shaw was not spotted – though he’s suspended to face the Eagles.
