BLACK FRIDAY IGNITES UPHEAVAL IN FESTAC MALL
The ‘Black Friday’ promotional programme organised by Shoprite to provide a platform whereby customers can purchase wares at a discounted rates attracted a lot of shoppers thereby causing commotion in the Festac shopping mall today.
The mall was full with numerous customers who are interested in buying products at a reduced price rates, as some customers said they have arrived at the shopping mall’s doorstep as early as 5:00am. At exactly 8:00am that shopping activities commenced, the mall witnessed heavy foot traffic and customers were seen striving to get the best wares first.
The discount attached to the products differs with some as low as 20 per cent while others were as high as 67 per cent.
It was assumed that majority of the shoppers were buying products to be used during the Christmas and New Year celebration to avoid purchasing the same products at higher prices from the local markets.
As early as about 11:00 am, some product stands were already emptied by the shoppers.
The Shoprite management had troubles dealing with the heavy traffic in the mall but eventually had to restrict some numbers of persons going in, pending the time similar number of shoppers exit the mall.
