LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTER: A PLACE WHERE EXCITEMENT MEETS WITH FEAR

Lekki Conservation Center (LCC) was established in 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), it is one of Africa’s most prominent and diverse urban nature park due to the availability of different species of plants and animals in the park.

LCC covers an approximate 78 hectares of land, it is situated at Kilometer 19 Lagos-Epe Expressway by Chevron Bus-Stop, near Okun Ibeju Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area Lagos State.

It is basically a place where distinctive biodiversity, natural and scientific plants and animals are preserved with recreational values. It also serves as a resource center for the promotion of environmental education and public understanding of the natural world due to the rapidly increasing threats to the natural environment.

A visit to LCC will provide you the opportunity to walk on the longest canopy walkway in Africa which is 401-metre long; it is an amazingly suspended swinging bridge walkway through the various types of vegetation available in LCC Natural Park. It has the entry and exit points that connect to the six towers which give visitors a unique unforgettable opportunity to explore the nature park with a panoramic view.

The canopy walkway is an excitement walk crowded with fear and tremble, some first timer visitors believed their fathers relative in the village may appear from nowhere to initiate a violence swing or cut one of the rope in which the rails to the towers are resting and thereby fall them off the canopy walkway.

Also, the canopy walkway is not meant for those who are acrophobia, as the fear of height may cause an individual to initiate a violent swing thereby making every other person uncomfortable. It is a walk you must decide to finish, as visitors are warned before embarking on the journey that there is no turning back once the journey starts.

Putting aside the atmosphere of fear, the canopy walkway is thrilling walk that will avail you the opportunity to explore the natural park and get a panoramic view of the conservation center.

Other fascinating experience at LCC includes; the Tree House where visitors can view the natural park at a glance from a house built on a 22.5ft. tree above the ground level, a 2km board that offers an excellent nature walks and bird watching opportunities, family park that offers nature walks, picnic & sporting facilities, Swamp Look-out Station, 96-Seater Gazebos, 6 and 8-seater Family Huts, Floor Games (Ludo, Snake and Ladder, Draught, Chess and Street Tennis), Koi & Tilapia ponds, Beach Volley-ball courts & Spectators’ pavilion, Barbecue joints.
