REAL MADRID SETS TO REUNITE WITH MOURINHO AS CLUB PRESIDENT CONTACTS FORMER-MANAGER

Real Madrid have made contact with Jose Mourinho about a sensational return to the Bernabeu.
Santiago Solari is the Spanish side’s current manager, after the sacking of Julen Lopetegui earlier this season, but they are struggling in fifth place, ten points behind leaders Barcelona.
The Sun reports that Real president, Florentino Perez now wants Mourinho back and the club have contacted his representatives.
Perez appointed Mourinho in 2010, winning the Copa del Rey a year later and beating Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona side to La Liga glory in 2012.
Mourinho left the following season, having reportedly upset a number of players in the changing room, though Perez never wanted him to go.
“Nobody’s been sacked, it’s a mutual agreement,” Perez said, when it was announced Mourinho was leaving in 2013.
“We’ve decided to bring our relationship to an end,” he added, acknowledging the team had improved during his time in charge.
The pair have remained on good terms ever since.
Despite being sacked as Manchester United manager following a string of bad results and more dressing room revolt, Perez believes Mourinho is the man to revive Real’s fortunes.
Mourinho has been in high demand since his dismissal on 18 December and recently turned down the chance to manage Benfica again, a club he left in 2000.
Right now, though, Mourinho cannot accept an offer as he is still trying to sort out his pay off with Manchester United.
The 55-year-old is due a £15million settlement and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has asked for a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to sort out the final details of the separation.
In addition to winning the League Cup and Europa League during his two-and-a-half-year stay at Old Trafford, Mourinho also guided the club to their highest league finish – a runners-up spot last season – since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.
