KEVIN HART’S DRAMATIC DEBUT, THE UPSIDE RANKED AMERICA’S #1 MOVIE
Joseph Omoniyi
American actor, Kevin Hart’s new released, The Upside has been rated the #1 movie in America.
The Neil Burger-directed movie earned an estimated $20.4m in the Box Office over the weekend, beating the projected $10million
The movie which is Kevin Hart’s First step into the dramatic world had dethroned Aquaman (which made $17.5m in its fourth weekend of domestic release) and gave STX Entertainment their first-ever chart-topping debut (and their first chart-topping movie, period).
The film was a $37m-budgeted Weinstein Company flick that got picked up (and cut down to a PG-13) by STX after Weinstein Company imploded in late 2017. Despite mixed-negative reviews and despite (or because of?) a flurry of pre-release controversies, the Kevin Hart/Bryan Cranston/Nicole Kidman melodrama nearly doubled its pre-release tracking.
