“SURVIVING R KELLY”: PROTESTERS WANT SONY TO DROP R KELLY

A group of activists have stormed the headquaters of Sony Music, parent of R Kelly’s longtime record label, RCA, to deliver a petition signed by over 217,000 people demanding the company drop the singer.

The rally comes less than a week after a plane carrying a banner that read “RCA/Sony: Drop Sexual Predator R. Kelly” was flown over Sony Music’s offices in Culver City, Calif. The national women’s organization that commissioned the plane, Ultraviolet, was also present at Wednesday’s rally in New York.

Drawing approximately 80 protesters, the demonstration, dubbed the “Rally to MuteRKelly and Protect Black Girls,” included groups like Color of Change, Care2, CREDO, NOW-NYC, Girls for Gender Equity and Black Women’s Blueprint alongside UltraViolet.

Public outrage has been channelled through the rallying cry #MuteRKelly since Lifetime’s documentary series “Surviving R Kelly” presented multiple women accusing the singer of sexual misconduct.
