MAN UTD LEGEND, PAUL SCHOLES LANDS HIS FIRST MANAGEMENT JOB AS OLDHAM ATHLETIC MANAGER
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been confirmed as new manager of Oldham Athletic on an 18-month contract, marking his first job in management.
Scholes had been widely expected to take over at Boundary Park after Oldham sacked former boss Frankie Bunn over a month ago.
Bunn was dismissed after a 6-0 defeat at Carlisle on Boxing Day, and Latics have been without a manager since then, with academy coach Pete Wild overseeing eight games including the FA Cup win at Fulham.
Oldham are 14th in League Two after a 3-0 win at Crawley on Saturday, which featured a debut goal from United loanee Zak Dearnley. The result leaves them nine points off the play-offs, and Scholes will be tasked with masterminding a late push for the top seven.
Scholes, who played for United over 700 times and won 27 trophies at Old Trafford, only received clearance from the English Football League (EFL) on Friday to take over at Oldham with his 10 per cent ownership stake at Salford City a potential deal-breaker.
