SUPER EAGLES BEAT AFCON 2019 HOST
Joseph Omoniyi
Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat the Egypt national team 1-0 at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba to keep their AFCON 2019 preparation in shape.
Paul Onuachu scored the only goal of the game with a strike from just outside the box from a pass from John Ogu from kick off, seven minutes into the game precisely in what was his first start for Nigeria at senior level.
Onuachu who made his debut for Nigeria on Friday in the 3-1 win over Seychelles showed great composure and technique to finish off what was Nigeria’s best chance of the first half.
As expected Egypt tried to force their way back into the game by pushing the Nigerians backward but tried as they could, the best chance of the half twice fell to Nigeria but Alex Iwobi and Henry Onyekuru fail to make proper use of chances in the box.
Egypt did threaten with a shot from range which was spectacularly gathered by Nigeria substitute goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who also smothered the follow up attempt to help preserve Nigeria’s lead.
