One percent of Barcelona players’s salaries are donated to help former players of the club and also devoted for charity causes.
Although, players like Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldihno and the likes that played at the club in the last 10 years may not need this gesture, there are some who were not so famous and flourishing during their time and are struggling due to economic hardship, health issues,etc. Some have needed the association to help pay for an operation or a mortgage.
0.5% goes to supporting over 1,000 former players, male and female, who played at various levels and the other 0.5% goes to the Barça Foundation.
Over 1 million children around the world are said to benefit from the Barcelona foundation programmes
