HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE “X-MEN” AND “FANTASTIC FOUR IN THE SAME MOVIE”?

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has explained how the Fox properties would be used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For one thing, Feige isn’t in any rush, which has already been reported. With that being said, Feige has been preparing for the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and others to come join the MCU for a long time. Marvel fans have been waiting quite a while too, but now seems like the perfect time for it all to go down.
Kevin Feige probably has to talk about the Disney and Fox deal on a daily basis. Regardless, when asked about the situation in a new interview promoting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Feige is excited to shed more light on the subject. Feige had this to say about the Fox properties such as X-Men and Fantastic Four, and how they’ll be incorporated into the MCU.
“It’s still early days, but it’s been a fun exercise, and it’s one, by the way, that we’ve been doing for years. Every development meeting starts with cool ideas and fun ideas, and our wheels are always turning in terms of what if… to use a Marvel publishing term. What if we did this? What if we did that? What if we had access to such and such characters? That’s how Spider-Man: Homecomingcame together in the first place, and it’s fun to now be in this position with the Fox characters, too, because if we come up with a great ‘What If’ we can actually do it.”
As for deciding which projects to do next or characters to introduce, Kevin Feigeadmits that it has a lot to do with timing and the story they want to tell. One has to imagine the MCU’s Phase 4 was planned out pretty far in advance, especially considering Infinity War and Endgame were first brought up years ago. When asked about those MCU specifics, Feige did his best to talk without spoiling anything. He explains.
“You know, oftentimes it just comes down to a specific character in a specific story and a specific way to introduce them. So sometimes, like with Spider-Man and Black Panther, that made sense. Then, other times, with characters like Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Thor, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man… it’s fun to introduce them in their own movies first. So it just depends on the story we’re trying to tell.”
For now, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios can rest easy in knowing they can do just about whatever they want to do moving forward. They have all of their Fox properties back under one roof, which means the possibilities are pretty much endless. Feige talked further about that feeling of freedom and had this to say about the future.
“It’s great to (finally) have what most companies that hold a lot of intellectual property have, and it’s access to all those characters. We were one of the few companies that has a lot of characters but didn’t have access to a whole bunch of them, and now that we do, it’s wonderful. They’re back in the sandbox, in the toy chest, and now as ideas come up and as opportunities come up, we can utilize them, which feels really nice.”
Fox just put out Dark Phoenix and it tanked pretty hard at the box office. It will be a little while before those characters show up in the MCU, even though Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have more than likely broached the subject many times by now. There’s a lot of “what if,” as Feige would call it, going on, and Marvel fans are excited to see what happens to the Fox properties now. While Feige is happy to explain certain things, he is also the master of keeping secrets, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what the future holds.
