WHY A MADMAN CANNOT COMMIT SUICIDE
On a cold Friday morning before the end of Salat al-fajr, the sun was not smiling down on us but he wind was very gentle; the trees were quite responsive as the muezzin made a loud call for a quick gathering to do the will of Allah. He was sitting outside- the mysterious man, waiting patiently in the cold for the prayer to end as he seemed indifferent about the salat. However it was very cold and dark, so I couldn’t get a hold of his face nor his appearance.
I made a very careful observation that morning after the salat– he was fanning himself, and he said he was feeling too cold to bathe in a hot water. I was intrigued by his logics and sense of reasoning. How ironic, deep and quite poetic, right? So I thought, but my inquisitive mind couldn’t rest, as a science student, till I know better. Shockingly enough, he came close to me and waited for moving cars to pass before he crossed the road. It was after I said As-Salam-u-Alaikum that it occurred to me he was a mad man.
He does not truly understand the will of he who made him, but he does know one thing- the value of life, how priceless it is. Has it ever occurred to you that madmen look left and right before crossing the road? Have you ever wondered why they flee the sight of cane and run to food when they see one?
These are basic things regular people do for survival yet even a mad man understands them too. Well, I once asked a wise man and he said that there is something about the pricelessness of life that the creator has put in every being, plant, and animal, which make them, value life. In précis, no one wants to die.
What then do we make out of suicides; when a young man, full of life and energy, feels to be dead is better than being alive? They often say “sensible thoughts come to suiciders immediately after they have pulled the trigger”; unfortunately, the bullet has a rule…once a shot is fired, you cannot retract the bullet unfulfilled.
Whenever you are caught up wallowing in the ocean of suicidal thoughts, like it is going to drown you, always remember that even a twig is enough hope for a drowning man. If you cannot find one for yourself always remember that “even a mad man sabi wetin life be, e dey struggle to live.”
Much love and shout out to our brave and courageous soldiers who put their lives on the line every day for the good of our fatherland.
Have a restful day and a lovely weekend ahead.
