The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has said that under no circumstances will he seek a third term in office.
The President’s spokesman, Garba Shehu made this known on Nigeria’s Independence day, saying categorically that the Buhari will not seek to amend the constitution regarding the two term limit on holding office as president.
He said the presidency wants to correct internet based gossip and Un-informed media commentary regarding presidential term limits, backed by so called support group, staging street demonstrations to support the president on a third term run.
He went ahead to say president Buhari intends to serve his full second elected term in office, ending 2023, which would then be followed by a general election and he wouldn’t be a candidate.
