GUNMEN ATTACK CHURCH IN ONDO; MANY FEARED DEAD

Gunmen have attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Ogaluwa in Owo, Ondo State killing many worshippers and injuring several others.
Reports say the gunmen entered into the Church on Sunday morning during morning mass and opened fire on members of the congregation.
The dead and the injured have been rushed to several hospitals in the town and neighbouring communities.
Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FMC, Owo, Dr Liasu Adeagbo, who spoke to newsmen, said many medical personnel have been deployed to cater for the injured persons.
He said it was still too early to speak on the issue.
Another nurse, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was not enough medical personnel on ground to attend to the victims at the emergency unit of the hospital.
She said many of the victims were taken to a private hospital.
As at press time, neither the Ondo State Police Command nor the State Government had issued an official position on the matter.
Scores of youths in the town are said to have gone on rampage attacking people and destroying property in protest to the killings.
Another account said the attackers actually used an explosive device inside the Church.
The attackers disguised as worshippers and kidnapped a Reverend Father.
Information has it that the criminals did not come with vehicles as they hijacked a vehicle on the road to convey their abductee.
