The killing of worshippers in Owo, according to Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, was carried out to lower the government’s and community’s morale.

Aregbesola, who bemoaned the fact that criminals were preying on weak targets, stressed that the Federal Government would not be deterred in its efforts to ensure sufficient protection for citizens’ lives and property.

On Monday, Aregbesola paid a condolence visit to Owo and asked Nigerians not to let the incident disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the country’s many ethnic groups and religions.

Sola Fasure, his Media Adviser, stated these things in a statement.

“While the criminals’ objective is still unknown, there is no question that their cowardly conduct is designed to generate disorder and instill terror in the population, instigate problems, and provoke bloody inter and intra-ethnic crises,” the statement stated in part.

It’s concerning that this is happening in a part of Nigeria where there is some peace and serenity. This could only have been done to further destabilize the state and throw the country into an unnecessary crisis.

The attack was intended to lower the government’s and Owo community’s morale. Their actions have the potential to expand the gaps in Nigerian national harmony and peaceful coexistence, fanning ethnic and religious problems, and turning our people against one another on the basis of ethnicity and religion.

All security services in the country have initiated a manhunt to catch those responsible for the atrocious act, he added.

“The enemy are those who attacked innocent people worshiping in God’s sanctuary.” They are nothing more than animals and cowardly savages. I can promise you, however, that Nigeria’s whole security apparatus is on the hunt for the enemy who infiltrated our country to sow mayhem. We’ve tracked them down, and they’ll be captured and made to pay a high price for this unprovoked attack.”
