EKITI 2022: I DID NOT HAVE ANY ARRANGEMENT WITH TINUBU TO STEP DOWN – SDP CANDIDATE SEGUN ONI
The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti State’s June 18 election, has clarified that he did not sign any arrangement with former Lagos State Governor and APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of Saturday’s election.
Oni stated that while he will not deny that he and Tinubu were previously personal political bedfellows, the APC National Leader’s emergence as a presidential candidate will not sway him to renounce or compromise his governorship ambition.
During his visit to the state on Tuesday, the former governor talked with reporters in Ado-Ekiti, reacting to claims that Tinubu had struck a deal with him on the need to backtrack on his ambition in order to clear the way for the success of APC candidate Biodun Oyebanji in the impending election.
In 2015, on the urging of Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Oni became the APC National Deputy Chairman (South), before rejoining the People’s Democratic Party in 2019.
According to him, “Let me say that this is a lie, I have not seen Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for over a year now. I am here for the Ekiti people and I will not compromise the interest of Ekiti people for anything.
