By Aishat Momoh. O.
Lagos State government on Thursday, handed over the Ikoyi building site, to a structural engineering firm, Edge of Design, which will be in charge of the dismantling of the twin 14-storey and eight-storey structures on the site in a manner that will not pose any health or environmental hazards to residents in the neighbourhood.
The 3 structures to be demolished are the storey-buildings adjoining the 21-storey building which crashed on 21st of November, 2021, claiming over 40 lives.
The government revealed that these buildings pose a major threat to the lives of the residents of the area, hence, the demolition.
According to the constructors, the demolition will be done using the non-explosive method in order to ensure minimal impacts on buildings and residents of the area.
However, Mr Bamgbose-Martins, during the handover, emphasized the need for the constructors to prioritize the safety of their workers on site as well as that of residents living in the area.
The constructors reveal that major works on the demolition which is to take 3-6 months will begin next week. Government officials assert that they will be coming in frequently to check on their progress.
