ANGRY SUPPORTERS BOOED KIZZ DANIEL OFF STAGE
By Adeniyi Onaara
During a performance in the United States, supporters turned against the superstar from Nigeria, Kizz Daniel.
The “Buga” singer arrived nearly four hours late for his performance and rushed through his brief, 30-minute set. This infuriated the audience, who booed him off stage and threw things at him while demanding a refund.
A Twitter user who criticized him for being unprofessional released a video of Kizz Daniel being booed off the stage by irate fans.
“Are you not ashamed, @Kizz Daniel? Buga made people wait for 4 hours…” The tweeter expressed anger indignantly.
When Kizz Daniel finally arrived after keeping the audience waiting for hours, he was greeted by visibly irate fans who hurled abuses at the star and asked him to leave the stage.
Nigerian fans were outraged by the video on Twitter because it brought to mind the constant contempt Nigerian superstars have shown for their followers. Following the underwhelming performance of various Afrobeats stars at Afronation Portugal, Kizz Daniel’s antics have gained attention.
Concerns regarding the lack of professionalism exhibited by Nigerian artists persist, particularly with regard to timeliness and stagecraft.
Nigerian fans have started to question why local supporters aren’t given the same respect as international fans after Omah Lay and Rema apologized to one of the Afronation Portugal attendees for their subpar performance.
Generally speaking, Nigerian musicians are starting to treat their overseas followers with the same contempt and condescension that they do their domestic supporters.
It remains to be seen whether these artists will make conscious efforts to address this flaw or if they will continue to disregard fan criticism.
