The Independent National Electoral Commission has come under fire from Nigerian singer Davido for neglecting to grant his uncle Ademola Adeleke a certificate of return 48 hours after the latter had won the governor of Osun State.

On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, the musician resorted to Twitter to criticize the umpire body.

“48hrs after our @AAdeleke_01 victory at the Osun Gubernatorial elections, we are yet to receive our certificate. @inecnigeria should we send you fuel money? LOL Please no one should tamper with the will of the Osun People! Issue the certificate as required by law!” he tweeted.

This occurs just 48 hours after INEC announced that Adeleke, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, had won the Osun State gubernatorial election on July 16.

Gboyega Oyetola, the state’s current governor, received 375,027 votes, falling short of Adeleke’s 403,371 total.

The PDP candidate won the governorship election with 28,344 votes.

17 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas were won by Adeleke.

This is the second time Adeleke and Oyetola would compete against one another for governor.

In 2018, Oyetola prevailed over Adeleke in a rerun that was held in seven polling places.

With 482 votes, the incumbent governor won the race.
