Actor Moses Armstrong from Nollywood is accused of raping a kid and providing abortion-inducing substances.
The four accusations were read to Armstrong on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in a State High Court session in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, according to Premium Times.
His attorney Emmanuel Pantaleon requested permission from the court to proceed with the consideration of his client’s bail application, which was submitted on behalf of him on July 25.
In opposition to the bail application, the prosecution’s I.U. Robert, an associate state counsel, cited pertinent judicial authorities and urged the court to reject the motion, which he described as a “abuse of court process.”
After hearing arguments from both attorneys, the judge, Ntong Ntong, upheld the defense attorney’s request and granted Mr. Armstrong bail in the amount of N5 million.
Additionally, the actor’s friends and followers posted pictures of him on social media outside the courtroom.
In June, men from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command detained Armstrong on suspicion of defiling a 16-year-old girl.
When the news of his detention broke, Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, called the situation “extremely serious.”
“Neither I nor the group I do not represent would support being involved with a youngster as young as 16 years old.
I wouldn’t want to comment further on this matter, but this is a really sad event concerning one of our own, he added.
According to Rollas, Martha Udom Emmanuel, the first lady of Akwa Ibom State, is handling the issue as part of her Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path Initiative.
He separated the Guild from the heinous deed.
Amstrong is currently the governor of Akwa Ibom State’s special assistant, Udom Emmanuel.
