TERRORISTS ATTACK CATHOLIC CHURCH IN TARABA, KIDNAP CATECHIST
By Sumayyah Olapade
Terrorists attacked St. Agnes Catholic Church in Taraba State’s Gassol Local Government Area on Sunday night and abducted a catechist.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence Awua, Parish Priest of St. Agnes Parish, said that terrorists stormed the church and began shooting at 9:58 p.m.
“I was in the room when the attackers entered and began shooting randomly and hitting objects on my door.”
“I never responded, and they probably assumed I wasn’t there.”
“My catechist, who was in the church, heard what was going on in the Parish House and was walking towards it when they kidnapped him,” he explained.
In a related development, gunmen shot Mr. Tavershima Faga on Sunday afternoon in Borno-kurku, Bali local government area of the state.
Faga was riding his motorcycle home from a church service when he was shot and left in a pool of blood.
“A passerby noticed him alive and alerted the community. He is currently being treated at an unnamed hospital,” he said.
These attacks came just two weeks after gunmen assassinated Pastor Solomon Maji on his way home from church in Borno-kurku.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Usman Abdullahi, did not respond to calls to his line as of the time of filing this report.
