CONCERNS AS GUNMEN ABDUCT NASARRAWA INFORMATION COMMISSIONER

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Nasarawa State, Yakubu Lawal, has been kidnapped by gunmen who stormed his residence on Monday night and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
According to reports, the incident, which occurred in the state’s Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area and was met with sporadic shooting, lasted thirty minutes without the assistance of security agencies.
Auta Nasela, a teacher at the Government Science Secondary School in the same LGA, was killed by gunmen on the school grounds on Saturday, and another teacher was injured.
Confirming the incident, Rahman Nansel, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated, “On 15/8/2022 at about 8:45 pm, the attention of Policemen on routine patrol was drawn to the sound of sporadic gunshots in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.”
“As a result, Nasarawa Eggon Division Police operatives rushed to the scene, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, immediately reinforced the men with a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Military personnel, Vigilante, and local hunters.”
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that those unknown gunmen had invaded the residence of one Hon. Yakubu Lawal Addah and forcefully abducted him to an unknown destination while shooting sporadically.”
“The combined team, led by Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu, is conducting a search and rescue operation to rescue the victim unharmed and apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.”
Nansel urged members of the public to contact the command if they had any useful information that could help the command in rescuing the victim or apprehending the suspects.
