The main antagonist in the “Hunger Games” prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” has been portrayed by Viola Davis.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, has cast Viola Davis to play Dr. Volumnia Gaul. The lead game designer for the tenth annual Hunger Games is Gaul.

The movie also stars Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Josh Andrés Rivera, Peter Dinklage, and Hunter Schafer.

Francis Lawrence has agreed to return to directing the fourth installment of the franchise after helming the first three. Lawrence said of Davis’ persona that she was “the games’ most dominant presence.”

“Dr. Gaul is as ruthless as she is inventive, and she is as terrifying and powerful. She is the most powerful character in the games, and his interactions with her help shape Snow’s acumen as a political operative, according to Lawrence, who was quoted by The Hollywood reporter.

Nina Jacobson, the franchise’s producer, continued, “Viola has always been our fantasy for Dr. Gaul because of the subtly nuanced intelligence and emotion she gives to every job.

Gaul, a bright and quirky strategist, plays a crucial role in forming the character of young Coriolanus Snow. For this crucial role, we are tremendously lucky to have an actor with Viola’s extraordinary range and charisma.

“The outstanding casting of The Hunger Games movies has always elevated them, and we are happy to be carrying on that tradition with Viola Davis as Volumnia Gaul.

She will bring layers of complexity and menace to this drama, said Nathan Kahane, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

On November 17, 2023, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is scheduled to be released in theaters. Davis will make an appearance this fall in the upcoming movie Black Adam before that.
