NIGERIANS ARE VICTIMS OF INCOMPETENT GOVERNANCE, SAYS AKIM YUSUF
Nigerians are victims of incompetent governance, according to Akim Yusuf
Akim Yusuf, the governorship candidate for the Action Democratic Party in Oyo State, believes that Nigerians endure unnecessary hardship because of the country’s prevalent “incompetent and irresponsible” governance.
Residents in several areas of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, have protested the ongoing new naira note policy combined with the problem of fuel scarcity.
This week, the shortage of nairas reached a new high when banks stopped collecting old notes, prompting a number of Ibadan residents to protest in the streets.
Supreme court had temporarily banned the implementation of the February 10 deadline of the Central Bank of Nigeria from making the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes legal tender during a hearing. However, CBN governor insisted that there is no going back on the new naira note policy.
Yusuf, a seasoned banker, disapproved of the policy that has made life challenging for Nigerians. According to him, the ongoing disruption by the protesters are beyond the scarcity of fuel and currency but the prevalence of incompetent governance in the nation.
“The real pain is not the disruptions we suffer because people are trooping out in massive numbers to protest the ongoing currency and fuel scarcity; the tragedy is that we have all been subjected to needless, mindless suffering by the incompetent and irresponsible governance prevalent in Nigeria.” He said.
The apex court today adjourned the case brought against the Federal Government and CBN against the naira swap policy of the CBN till Wednesday, February 22 for hearing of the consolidated suits by 10 states.
The suit which was initially filed by Zamfara, Kogi and Kaduna states had since been joined by several other states including Niger, Kano, Ondo, Ekiti.
Lagos State and Ogun state are the latest states to apply to join the suit.
