ASSBIFI DIRECTS BANK WORKERS TO STAY AT HOME IN TROUBLE SPOTS
The Association of Senior Staff of Bank, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has directed its members to stay away from work in any state where bank branches are attacked.
This was contained in an order issued by the national secretariat of the union on Friday evening. The order read that “All members should Today immediately Stay Away from Work in any State where bank branches are attacked.”
The order signed by the National President of the Union, Olusoji Oduwole; said that the action is to “continue until normalcy is restored”.
“The National Secretariat has been inundated with reports of threats and attacks on lives and properties of members and bank branches, and subsequently has been in the field to monitor and confirm the reports.”
Oluwole said the Union had issued warnings and appeals to government to provide security for its members all to no avail.
He cited today’s attack at a branch of commercial bank in Epe, Lagos State.
“We cannot leave the lives and properties of our members exposed to obvious danger.”
Bank branches have been under attack in several parts of the country due to cash scarcity occasioned by the cash swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
