FALSE: TINUBU NEVER REQUESTED THAT GOVERNORS DISOBEY PRESIDENT BUHARI
By Adeniyi Onaara
Our attention has been drawn to a false viral news story that was published by the Peoples Gazette and claimed that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, had asked the party’s governors to disregard President Muhammadu Buhari’s broadcast in favor of upholding the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the circulation of old Naira notes.
The platform’s publication is a forgery.
Tinubu never gave such a command. The media and communications adviser for the APC-PCC, Mr. Dele Alake, has never released such a statement on Asiwaju Tinubu’s behalf.
The WhatsApp message cited by Peoples Gazette was being dispersed at random. The author wasn’t Mr. Alake.
Since the currency exchange issue began, Asiwaju Tinubu has been known to urge restraint while the authorities work to find a solution.
He has put out a six-point proposal to minimize the suffering our people are going through in their attempts to obtain financing from the banks.
Also, he has discussed the issue in multiple meetings with his commander, President Buhari.
That he would tell the APC governors to ignore President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision regarding the currency is therefore incomprehensible and unfathomable.
The governors who have so far announced this course of action made it plain that they were following the Supreme Court’s decision, which is the highest court in the land.
No input from Asiwaju was used to make this choice.Journalists should make an effort to verify that their materials came from the campaign’s Media and Publicity Directorate, unless they are working on the orders of political opponents or pursuing some other goal.
They can also ask Mr. Alake or the Tinubu Media Office for confirmation.
The Gazette should retract the report right away.
