
WE DIDN’T INSTRUCT COMMERCIAL BANKS TO ACCEPT OLD N500 AND N1,000 NOTES – CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday evening denied news making the rounds that it had instructed Commercial Bamks to accept old N500 and N1000 notes from its customers.
In a press release signed by the Apex Bank’s spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi; he said the CBN will only accept and recirculate the old N200 notes, as stated in the nationwide address by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
Earlier on Friday, some commercial banks had announced that they could accept deposits of N500,000 and below, from customers in the old N500 and N1,000 denominations.
