JAMB CLOSES REGISTRATION FOR 2023 UTME AS EXTENSION EXPIRES
By Adeniyi OnaaraĀ
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has finally decided to close the books on the 2023 UTME registration procedure after the previous week’s extension expired on Wednesday, 22 February 2023.
This was revealed in a statement made on Wednesday by the board’s Chief of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin.
Remember that the Board approved the extension to accommodate candidates who were unable to register for the 2023 UTME within the stipulated window of Saturday, 14th January to Tuesday, 14th February, 2023, due to unforeseen circumstances in the country.
At the end of the registration period, almost 1.6 million applicants have successfully enrolled for the 2023 UTME.
This number does not include the Direct Entry component of the exercise, which commenced on Monday, 20th February 2023, before it was put on hold on Tuesday, 21st February 2023.
The Registrar’s monitoring team, which had gone around the country, was in Nasarawa and Delta States on the penultimate day of the exercise to observe its end, according to the statement.
The crew visited Trinity Innovation Hub CBT Centre, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku CBT Centre 1 and 2, Delta State Library CBT, and others in Asaba, Delta State.
It was notable, however, that none of these centers had any candidates waiting to be registered, indicating that practically all candidates who wanted to participate in the exercise had done so.
The similar circumstance was repeated in several Nasarawa State centers, as few candidates were spotted at all centers a day before the closing date, and even these were cleared before the end of work.
Thus, by every indicator, this yearās exercise is shaping up to be the smoothest the Board has ever had, the statement stated.
āBased on reports received from the various monitoring teams across the country, the Board would review its SIM number swap policy as it will now require the Telcos to confirm that the old SIM being put forward for swapping previously belonged to the applicant but had been issued to another person, which would, therefore, preclude the possibility of a SIM welcome back before such swapping would be approvedā, it added.
