The murder trial of the prime suspect in the on-going murder case of a Lagos-based Lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, , Drambi Vandi, was stalled on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, as prosecution called for adjournment, following the absence of the defendant.
On the last adjourned date, Justice Ibironke Harrison of the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square annex fixed 28th February, 2023 for the adoption of written addresses by the defense on a no-case submission.
When the case was called today for adoption on final written addresses, Wahab Lawal, who represented the state, requested that the matter be stood down on the basis that the defendant’s presence is needed before the court can adopt the written addresses.
He added that while the matter is on hold, he would like to confirm from his principal if the matter could continue.
the defense counsel, Adetokunbo Odutola, did not object to the request of adjourning the adoption of written address.
When the case was recalled, the court listened to the argument of the prosecution.
Having heard the arguments, Justice Ibironke Harrison adjourned the case.
In her ruling, she said, “The case was slated for adoption of final written addresses.
both parties have filed their written addresses and defense has responded.
“The prosecution argued that the case could not continue without the presence of the defendant in court. However, the court does not see why the written addresses should not be taken.”
“This case has been given accelerated trial but, it’s now been prolonged unnecessarily. Since there is no opposition, the case will be adjourned till 6th March, 2023 for adoption of final written address.” She concluded.
The State Government had preferred a one-count charge of murder contrary to a section 223 of the Criminal law of Lagos, 2015 against the defendant and arraigned him for the murder of Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas day.
