POLICE STAKEHOLDERS MEETING: LAGOS CP CALLS ON RELIGIOUS, POLITICAL LEADERS, OTHERS TO PREACH PEACE

Asssures safety of Lagosians….

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, on Thursday, said that the Command has responded to not less than 70 security related callouts by Lagosians, fuelled by post-election tension and misguided local urchins.

He noted that the intention of the hoodlums was to threaten citizens at specific locations while adding that the police has arrested many of those propelling these actions.

Owohunwa, made mention of these during a meeting with stakeholders to review security concerns arising from the 2023 Presidential Election in order to prepare for the Gubernatorial election on March 11, 2023.

The Commissioner of Police also reminded influential people that, they have an important role in setting an example and can help ensure that peace is maintained by speaking out against any form of violence or aggression while charging stakeholders in the state to eschew violence and preach peace, tolerance and rule of law to their teaming followers.

He equally gave the assurance that the Command will not hesitate to protect law-abiding citizens and deal with trouble makers in accordance with the law.

Speaking at the event, Barr. Femi Falana SAN, opposed the involvement of soldiers in monitoring elections while also condemning the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in delaying election materials. He cited that such could propel anger.

He however suggested that during the Governorship election on March 11, there should be full confidence that the police is prepared to manage the exercise.

Falana also said, “All those who were arrested, must be charged to court before the end of the week as deterrent to others.”

He appealed to the ethnic groups to cooperate with the police for peace to reign.

Also speaking at the meeting was Joke Odumakin, an activist and also an observer in the just concluded Presidential election, who mentioned that the election materials were delivered very late.

Meanwhile, Barr. Monday Ubani (NBA chairman, Ikeja), said that the just concluded election fell short of standard while advising that the situation shouldn’t degenerate into war.

Debo Akindayo otherwise known as Mr.Macaroni, implored the police force to use all the necessary tools to ensure security in the state during the forthcoming Governorship election.

However, Akin Olaoye, a man that was reported to be arrested on 25th of February, called for collaboration between the citizens and the police.

Also in attendance at the meeting was Mr Folarin Falana aka Falz, Eze Ndigbo of Alimosho, Igwe Lawrence, Eze Ndigbo of Ikeja, Eze Uche Dimgba, Alhaji Suleiman Baba, representing the Arewa Council of Chiefs, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, Mr. Mobolaji Olusegun, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, amongst others.
