CHRISLAND: LAGOS SET TO COMMENCE CORONER INQUEST TO DETERMINE WHITNEY ADENIRAN’S DEATH

The start date for the coroner’s inquest established to determine the cause of death of Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, a 12-year-old student at Chrisland School who passed away on February 9, 2023, is set for April 4.
Upon consideration of the arguments made by the attorneys who came before the Ogba-based court, Magistrate Olabisi Fajana set the date.
Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, the deceased family’s counsel, had previously notified the court that they had been unable to comply with the court’s instructions to file a witness statement at the previous postponed date.
The Magistrate Registry declined to enroll the witness statement for processing, according to Mr. Falana, on the grounds that there is no mechanism for filling out coroner’s processes.
Also, Mr. Olukayode Enitan, SAN, who represented Chrisland School, and Mr. Akin George, State Counsel, supported Mr. Femi Falana’s stance and asked the Court for instructions on how to file their respective procedures.
The Chief Magistrate will give instructions on how to make sure that the processes were filed before the coroner, Magistrate Olabisi Fajana told the Counsels.
Mr. Enitan then informed the court that he had a request for samples and documents to conduct an independent review of the autopsy report on file.
In response, Mr. Falana informed the court that the deceased’s autopsy was performed in front of the school representatives and other concerned parties despite the fact that they had not been served.
Akin George, the state’s attorney, however, informed the court that the state had only received a letter and not an application and that it would reply when it was suitable.
Magistrate Fajana then postponed the trial’s start date until April 4 and instructed the attorneys to make sure that all of their paperwork was submitted and confirmed on April 3.
