SECOND PHASE OF 2023 POLLS: LAGOS POLICE ASSURES ELECTORATE OF OPTIMAL SECURITY

As the second phase of election approaches the Lagos State Police Command has once again, promised the electorate of optimal securing during the processes across the state.

The command however, warns against fake news purveyors and mischief makers around the polling units, collation centres and beyond.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin on Monday, anyone found guilty of this crimes will be arrested and immediately brought to book to face the consequences of law.

The Statement reads, “The Lagos State Police Command is aware that defamatory, inciting, provocative, and seditious materials are being shared on social media with the aim of spreading panic, discord, and disturbance in Lagos State.

The good people and residents of Lagos State are urged to disregard all forms of messages, especially on social media, depicting fictitious, false, and absurd claims intended to jeopardize the peace currently enjoyed in the state, even though the Command has started investigating this scaremongering with a view to apprehending and prosecuting those found culpable.

As the second round of voting draws near, Lagos State Command Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, assures the electorate once more that the Command has fully utilized both its operational and human resources in cooperation with sister security agencies to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. Voters are urged to cast their ballots in person rather than fall prey to the fear mongering of a few unpatriotic elements posing as worried and well-meaning Nigerians on social media.

It is also important to issue a warning against causing trouble at voting places, collection centers, and elsewhere, since anyone found guilty will be promptly arrested and dealt with legally.
