Abdul-Azeez Adediran, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the recently ended governorship election in Lagos, has filed a petition with the Lagos governorship election tribunal.

His petition challenges the outcome of the March 18 election.

Jandor also demanded that the candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the Labour Party, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, be disqualified for “non-compliance” with the Electoral Act 2022 and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s instructions.

The PDP and Jandor stated in their petition, EPT/LAG/GOV/01/2023, dated April 7, that the APC did not follow the INEC timetable.

INEC (1st respondent), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (2nd respondent), Obafemi Hamzat Lagos-elect deputy governorship candidate (3rd respondent), APC (4th respondent), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (5th respondent), and the LP are among the petition’s respondents. (6th respondent).

Jandor went on to say that Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Hamzat, and Rhodes-Vivour were unfit to run in the election.

“The second and third respondents, despite not being duly sponsored and being unqualified, ran alongside the first petitioner and others for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject of this petition.”Similarly, the 5th and 6th respondents, despite being unsponsored and unqualified, ran for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject of this case, alongside the 1st petitioner and others.

“The 1st respondent, upon the conclusion of the election, declared the 2nd respondent who was not properly sponsored by the 4th respondent as the winner of the election to the office of governor of Lagos state.

“The 5th respondent who was similarly not properly sponsored by the 6th respondent was declared by the 1st respondent as having scored the second highest number of votes at the election to the office of governor of Lagos state,” the petition reads.
