MAGODO ISHERI-OKE LAND DISPUTE: CP OWOHUNWA CALLS FOR PEACE, WARNS AGAINST BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER
By Aishat Momoh. O.
All parties involved in the ongoing Isheri-Oke land dispute have been urged by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, to eschew peace and avoid breakdown of law and order in the state.
Reports have it that when the claimants attempted to have the High Court of Lagos’ ruling enforced, the neighborhood was tense as businesses, shop owners, craftsmen, and drivers of commercial vehicles hastily left for fear of getting caught up in the subsequent demonstration.
The CP made the call when he visited the area after an early-morning demonstration and a breakdown in community order that resulted in the invasion of the palace of the Olofin Chieftaincy family of Isheri, which resulted in the damage of the building and injuries to the palace employees.
Residents were given assurances of appropriate security and protection of lives and property by the Lagos State CP who visited the area to identify those responsible for the violent altercation.
Despite revealing that no arrests have yet been made in connection with this unpleasant occurrence, Owohunwa stressed that those responsible for starting the altercation will be dealt with once the investigation is over.
Hotjist.com learned that around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, two groups of over 100 boys stormed Isheri Oke in an attempt to paste a paper with a court order that claimed local landlords were the genuine owners of the land in question.
