POLICE PRESENTS N28 MILLION CHEQUES TO NEXT OF KIN OF DECEASED OFFICERS

โ€ฆ CP Owohunwa decorates 36 newly promoted officersโ€ฆ.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa, on Tuesday, presented cheques worth N28 million to the next of kin of seventy-eight police officers who died while in service.

The cheques were presented on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba, in accordance with the IGPโ€™s welfare insurance program for 2020โ€“2021, which aims to improve the living standards of the families of police operatives who died in the line of duty.

The commissioner, while speaking reassured the commitment of the force to the welfare of the officers while sympathizing with the deceasedโ€™s families.

He urged them to judiciously utilize the funds to better the lives of the families left behind.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Gloria Odeh expressed her happiness for the fund while she thanked the commission for the gesture while promising that his will make good use of the money.

โ€œI feel very happy because the money will go a long way and solve a lot of problem. Right now we have an ongoing project in the house where we live, at least this will take care of some things and also pay part of my childrenโ€™s school fees.โ€

Another beneficiary, Ikechukwu Desmond Kester said he will hand the money to his mum who he feels is in the best position.

He said, โ€ God has answered our prayers because, itโ€™s been a while that we have been expecting this cheque.โ€

Also, following their advancement to higher ranks, 36 police officers received decorations on Tuesday, at the stateโ€™s command.

The 36 newly promoted officers at the state police command headquarters in Ikeja, by the Commissioner of police, who urged them to work hard for the general welfare of the stateโ€™s citizens while speaking about the inspector general of policeโ€™s dedication to the officerโ€™s welfare.

Earlier in the month of February, the police service commission had elevated 1,043 officers, of which these 36 officers are a part, and appointed three officers to the rank of DIG.

Aisha Hassan, thanked the IGP for finding her worthy to be promoted to the rank of a CP, she assured that the promotion is a motivation to her and will continue to work harder.

Meanwhile, ACP Oke Oluwashola said, โ€œWe want to reassure the IGP and the general public because, higher rank demands higher responsibility. We are going to re-double our efforts to make sure that citizens are able to sleep peacefully with their eyes closed.โ€
