FIRE AT OONI OF IFE PALACE (VIDEO)
By Adeniyi Onaara
Late on Friday, a fire completely destroyed an apartment inside the palace of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife.
The fire, which is believed to have started around 11:30 p.m., was successfully put out, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the palace.
It was learned that the fire began as soon as the palace’s energy supply was restored.
While confirming the incident, Moses Olafare, a spokesperson for Ooni, revealed that a power surge caused electrical appliances to explode, setting off the fire.
Olafare claimed in a statement that only one building in the courtyard was harmed by the fire event, which was immediately extinguished thanks to the combined efforts of the State Fire Service Department and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile.
According to the statement, a power surge caused electrical appliances in the affected apartment to explode at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, engulfing a building apartment inside the courtyard of the Palace of the Ooni of Ife in flames.
No casualties or injuries were reported, and no cultural items were lost. “It was swiftly put out through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service, and Palace Emergency Control Unit,” according to a statement from the palace emergency control unit. Thank you, Olodumare the All-Powerful.
