One of the Nigerian students evacuated from Khartoum, the Sudanese capital; has told Hotjist.com that they have been surviving on only water for the past three days.
She is one of the many Nigerian students that are currently stranded at the Egyptian border town of Aswan.
The female undergraduate of the International University if Africa, Khartoum; said “We have not been able to buy food nor do we have access to food in any way. We tried buying a few things before we left Khartoum but all shops and businesses were already shut down.
“As it is, we have only been taking water since the journey started on Wednesday.
“Despite my predicament, I’m happy that I have indeed left the troubled zone. I urge the Nigerian authorities to speed up the evacuation of other stranded Nigerians still within the territories of Sudan”
The Federal Government has said that Nigerians evacuated from Sudan were stranded in Egypt’s border, as Egyptian authorities were demanding that everyone follow the normal visa protocols.
The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa made this known in a statement.
The statement quotes Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa as expressing concern over the plight of those affected.
The NIDCOM boss said nigerians are not being allowed to cross the border into Egypt since their arrival late Thursday evening.
She said the Nigerian mission in Egypt has been working tirelessly on this, noting that Nigerians were among the over seven thousand foreign nationals stuck in Egyptian border, as the country was demanding visas of the foreigners before entry.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa appealed to the Egyptian authorities to be kind and allow the already traumatized travellers to transit to their final destinations in various countries in Africa.
