LAGOS STATE ARRAIGNS TEACHER FOR BEATING PUPIL MAKING NOISE IN CLASS

Aderonke Makonde, a female teacher, was charged on Wednesday in an Ikeja Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly hitting a nine-year-old student for allegedly making noise in her class.
Aderonje (35), a teacher at the Westgate Land Imperial Creche, Nursery, and Primary School in Mushin, Lagos, was accused of assault by the police.
The student was allegedly abused by Aderonke for making noise in class by “flogging her mercilessly all over her body with a cane and causing her bodily harm,” according to the prosecution, DSP Kehinde Ajayi.
According to Ajayi, the teacher’s offense violated Section 172 of the Lagos Criminal Law of 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the matter to June 7.
