NAIJA SUPER 8: SPORTING LAGOS LATE PENALTY SINK REMO STARS
By Oduola F.O.
Sporting Lagos came from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Remo Stars in their Naija Super 8 Group A encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Tuesday.
Chiemeka Nwokeji’s tap-in secured the victory for the freshly promoted NPFL side after Remo Stars goalkeeper parried his 90th minute penalty kick back to him.
Remo Stars had opened the scoring through Franck Mawuena’s header in the 18th minute before Saturday Okon drew even three minutes before halftime.
It was a keenly contested second half of multiple effort from both sides before the late penalty.
Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Christian was sent off in the 94th minute following two consecutive bookings for time wastage.
Sporting Lagos, despite having identical points with Remo stars, now sits at the top of the group table on goals difference with one more game at hand.
The side will take on Katsina United on Thursday in their final group game.
