2023 BALLON D’OR: REMI TINUBU BACKS OSHOALA FOR AWARD
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has congratulated Asisat Oshoala on a her nomination for the prestigious 2023 Ballon d’Or Award.
The Super Falcons and Barcelona Femeni striker is nominated in the Socrates Award category, which recognises outstanding solidarity actions carried out by football champions.
The First Lady, while acknowledging Oshoala’s contributions to the world of football, both in Nigeria and in her current professional career in Spain, expressed immense pride in her achievements, extolling her talent and dedication, thereby, making the game more appealing.
She prayed that this year, once again, Oshoala will bring great honour to her beloved nation, Nigeria, by clinching the coveted Ballon d’Or Award for this year as the anticipation builds as the winner will be unveiled on September 6, 2023.
Tinubu hopes that Oshoala’s exceptional skills and outstanding performances inspire and encourage the youth especially young girls to show interest in football.
“Congratulations once again to Asisat Oshoala for her extraordinary achievements and for making Nigeria proud,” Senator Tinubu said.
Oshoala, who has already won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year five times and BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award, is one of five individuals shortlisted for the award, which was established last year and named after the legendary Brazilian footballer, Socrates.
Joining Oshoala as nominees in the category are Vinicius Jnr (Brazil/Real Madrid), Antonio Rudiger (Germany/Real Madrid), Marcus Rashford (England/Manchester United), and Alex Morgan (USA/San Diego Wave).
