SUPER FALCONS ARE STRONG UNDER PRESSURE – EGUAVOEN
Technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen is confident the Super Falcons will make a big impact at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The nine-time African champions will compete in their tenth World Cup after being paired in the group stage with the Olympic champions Canada, the co-hosts Australia, and Republic of Ireland.
Eguavoen is confident that despite the huge task ahead of the Super Falcons, they will excel at the competition.
Speaking on the chances of the Super Falcons, Eguavoen said; “I’m very optimistic that they will perform well.
“The first game is always very important, the first game will determine how far we will go.
“Because if anything goes wrong in the first game, then the team becomes jittery, but with the quality of players we have, I think they are good enough to handle any kind of pressure and I’m looking at a very good performance.”
He also updated on the row between the head coach, Ralph Waldrum and the NFF. Recall that the Amercan callled out the Federation concerning bonuses.
Eguavoen said, “I am not comfortable with what I’ve been reading. I spoke with him. He apologized, he said he didn’t mean it that way.
“He felt if he speaks with a couple of people things will change, but it is not like that here, Nigeria is different, and Africa is different.
“But we have to do the right thing now, I’ve told him to just remain focused and forget about every other thing.
“Then as soon as the World Cup ends, we know what to do because everything coming up every now and then is a distraction for him and the team.”
The Super Falcons will kickstart their campaign on Thursday as they take on Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
The tournament which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand will run from July 20 to August 20.
