By Aishat O. Momoh
Drama ensued between operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) and the Department of State Services (DSS) over who takes custody of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos had granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N20m and a surety in like sum. He also directed that Emefiele should be kept in custody of the NCS at Ikoyi Correctional Centre until the perfection of his bail terms.
In the ensuing drama, NCS operatives believe it is their duty to take Emefiele away while the DSS acting on instructions from their superiors insist that Emefiele must go back with them. The scuffle degenerated into operatives of the DSS tearing the uniform of a senior NCS official while rough handling him.
DSS Opratives Manhandle NCS Official
The DSS operatives could be heard saying they have a subsisting court order allowing the DSS to keep Emefiele in custody for as long as necessary.
In a twist, operatives of the NCS have now left the court premises which implies that the DSS will eventually take custody of Emefiele.
The DSS has now taken Emefiele from the premises of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.
More details shortly.
