VIDEOS: SOLDIERS ON RAMPAGE IN LAGOS, BEAT UP LASTMA OFFICIALS
By ‘Leke Yusuf
In a what appears to be a retaliatory action, men of the Nigerian Army have gone in rampage in Lagos, beating up officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Different videos have emerged on social media where the soldiers have subjected LASTMA officials to inhuman conditions, beating and kicking them while on the floor.
Last week, a video had gone round on social media where a LASTMA official whipped a soldier in camouflage after an altercation between the two parties.
The narrative that followed the video suggested that the soldier who was sitting on the front seat of what appeared to be a commercial vehicle, had illegally passed through the dedicated Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Lane, which led to a disagreement.
Different social analysts had predicated retaliatory action by men of the Nigerian Army, as is customary of them in such situations.
Expectedly, some men of the Nigerian Army have taken to the streets of Lagos to beat up any official of LASTMA on sight.
In the videos, the soldiers; who covered their faces with scarves, along with some accomplices in mufti, could be seen using sticks, horse whips and cudgels to beat up the LASTMA officials.
In stillshots of one of the videos, one of the assailant-soldiers’ face was identifiable.
Neither the Nigerian Army nor LASTMA has issued any statement on the string of events.
