Mohammed Bago, the governor of Niger State, has declared that his administration will invest N1 trillion in the state’s infrastructure development during the next two years.

As a gateway connecting the northern and southern regions of the nation, Niger, according to Bago, will greatly profit from the infrastructural development.

The governor revealed this on Tuesday at the Government House in Minna when he opened a workshop on the Minna-Bida road project, which was co-financed by the Islamic Development Bank and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Bago thanked the IsDB and ADFD for agreeing to co-finance the Minna-Bida road project and emphasised the state’s enormous potential, citing factors like its size, the presence of four hydrodams, and eight international borders, among others, as selling points that would draw investors.

Although the state has great potential, he lamented the lack of infrastructure and the security that plague it. He urged development partners to assist the state in the areas of security, health, education, and agriculture, noting that counterpart funds are available.

In order to “improve online education in the state,” he gave Suleiman Isah, his commissioner for communication technology and the digital economy, instructions to engage telecom businesses in CSR.

Alagi Basiru Gaye, the project’s team leader, revealed that a total of $163 million has been set aside for the project, of which the IsDB will provide $86.64 million, the ADFD will contribute $44.76 million, and the Niger State Government will contribute $31.6 million.

He explained that the starting workshop was crucial for the project’s successful execution and would, among other things, strengthen the capabilities of executing agencies and project management teams.

Hassan Baba Etsu, the permanent secretary of the ministry of works, promised the IsDB and the ADFD that the project would be effectively monitored and that the ministry would see to it that the contract’s conditions and specifications were rigorously followed.
